The portrait was created at the passing of the subject in order to commemorate her life.  She was known even in her later years of life for always having her pearled necklace on, where Sundays in addition to her pearls she could often be seen in her pink suited blazer.

The subject sits in the chair which belonged to her deceased parents.  Although the decor behind her serves as a reminder to the spirit of home, it is in fact that subtle reference to the pink roses on the aged fabric chair which actually is the intended focus to years of effort in building a home by her parents.  Her mother grew pink roses in the front yard of her home where her father labored to offer the stability.  This allowed the subject to grow to then provide stability and beauty to her own family and home as a single mother raising several children.  Life's toils can be seen in the arthritic hands of a care worker and a provider.
